FAQs
Where are you located?
The address is 4036 NE Sandy Blvd, Suite 2. Portland, OR 97212
My office is on the second floor of the Hollywood building and you will have to use a flight of stairs to reach the treatment room. There’s a small waiting room right outside of my office.
Who do you work with?
I have over 10 years of experience and my clients have run the gamut. Everyone from teachers, healthcare providers, corporate leaders, athletes, retirees, overworked parents, and even children. The common thread is I help treat some kind of pain, especially chronic shoulder, neck, and back pain. I also see clients with chronic migraines, headaches, or TMJ issues looking for relief with Craniosacral. Clients are often referred to me who are struggling wtih GI issues and are curious about trying Chi Nei Tsang, which is a safe, gentle organ massage that can be very effective in helping ease GI symptoms associated with SIBO, IBS, and Crohn’s disease.
What type of massage do you do?
I have studied a lot of different modalities and combine them all into my own unique massage style. I have experience with Swedish, Myofascial, Deep Tissue, Craniosacral, Chi Nei Tsang, Thai, Structural Integration, and the list goes on.
But do you do deep tissue?
“Deep” is subjective and in massage it really refers to the depth of the work and not the pressure. I am not a “no pain, no gain” therapist, tho I do tend towards the firmer pressure side of things. However, I can use as light a pressure as you need me to. I listen to the body and use as firm a pressure as is appropriate for releasing trigger points and tension. I try to find the sweet spot between pressure that is therapeutically neccessary and deeply relaxing.
What is Craniosacral and Chi Nei Tsang?
Craniosacral is a gentle head and face massage. The way I practice it, I use Myofascial techniques to decompress the cranial bones where they connect at the sutures to relieve pressure, as well as release the muscles surrounding the bones. I work a lot with the area around the temple, the back of the head, and especially the jaw. I also incorporate intraoral (inside the mouth) work to even more deeply release those tight jaw muscles that can be associated with TMJ issues like clenching and grinding. Cranioscral is incredibly relaxing and stress relieving, but is especially helpful for those suffering from headaches, migraines, and TMJ issues.
Chi Nei Tsang is a gentle organ massage based on Qigong principles. It is an amazing and unique massage. I use Myofascial techniques to soften abdominal tissues, then sink into the layers surrounding the organs and gently help to free them from any fascial restrictions. I help to create space between the organs, the muscles layers, and the bony structures. Certain organs can be “drained” or “pumped” freeing up the digestional tracks or helping to expand the lungs and diaphragm for better breathing. It’s an oddly relaxing massage, even though most of us are not used to having someone touch our bellies. Chi Nei Tsang can be very helpful for those experiencing GI issues from constipation, IBS, SIBO, or Crohn’s disease.
Do I have to get undressed?
You don’t have to! I know massage techniques that work great on skin to skin contact or through clothing. No matter what you choose to wear during your massage, you will always be covered by a sheet and blanket and only the area I am working on will be uncovered. You can choose to be fully dressed in workout clothing, or just leave on underwear, or take everything off. It’s up to you!
What kind of lotion or oil do you use?
I use unscented, hypo-allergetic seed based gels and creams in my practice.
Do You Offer Gift Certificates?
No. Often gift certificates go unused or sit for months or years before someone has time to use it. Over the years I have noticed clients who come by way of gift certificate want a different style of massage than I offer, or their schedule doesn’t line up with my availability. So for the sake of ease, I don’t offer gift certificates or prepaid sessions.
